On Friday, March 27, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an officer-involved shooting investigation involving Officers with the Tuscumbia Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. when Deputies with the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a convenience store located in the 400 Block of U.S. Highway 43, in Colbert County. Officers with the Tuscumbia Police Department also responded to the scene to assist, as Deputies approached the vehicle, which was later identified as a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. During the course of the incident, the driver of the Genesis shifted the vehicle into reverse and struck one of the Tuscumbia Police Department’s patrol vehicles, causing two Officers with the Tuscumbia Police Department to discharge their weapons. The driver then fled the scene and a pursuit ensued.
During the course of the pursuit, the Genesis left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned at the intersection of Cedar Lane and Old Covered Bridge Road, located within Colbert County.
The driver of the Genesis, identified as Tarvarius Antonio Crawford, 29, of Birmingham, and the passenger of the vehicle, identified as Kevin Morris Gamble, 28, of Birmingham, were both injured as a result of the crash and were transported to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield for medical treatment.
No officers were injured during the course of the incident.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office.
