On Tuesday, Sept. 22, at approximately 6 a.m., at the request of the United States Marshals Service (USMS), Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an officer-involved shooting investigation involving Officers with the USMS Gulf Coast Regional Task Force (GCRTF).
The incident occurred when Officers assigned to the USMS GCRTF executed an arrest warrant for an individual wanted for Murder in the 100 Block of Ruby Drive in Pine Hill, located within Marengo County. Upon arrival, an Officer assigned to the GCRTF was struck by gunfire. Task Force Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Ernest Christopher Nathan. Nathan was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Officer was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Marengo County District Attorney’s Office.
