On Thursday, Aug. 20, at the request of the Montgomery Police Department, Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an officer-involved shooting investigation involving an Officer with the Montgomery Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:24 a.m. when Officers with the Montgomery Police Department attempted to execute a vehicle stop occupied by three subjects of interest in reference to an ongoing investigation. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, ultimately concluding near the intersection of Birmingham Highway and West Boulevard in Montgomery. The three individuals then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Over the course of the incident, one individual brandished a firearm, causing an Officer with the Montgomery Police Department to discharge his firearm and shoot the suspect. The suspect, who was later identified as 27-year-old Marquez Hughley, was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. No Officers were injured over the course of the incident.
The remaining two individuals were apprehended by the Montgomery Police Department and transported to the Department’s Criminal Investigation Division for further investigation.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
