A single-vessel marine-related incident that occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. Saturday, July 18, has claimed the life of a Mobile teen. The 18-year-old, who was operating the 22ft 2007 Boston Whaler, left the vessel, entered the water but never resurfaced. The passengers on board immediately took control of the vessel and attempted to locate the teen.
A multitude of first responders responded to the scene and began search operations. At approximately 9 a.m. Sunday, July 19, the teen’s body was located, and a dive team immediately began recovery operations. At approximately 9:59 a.m. Sunday, July 19, the youth’s body was recovered.
The incident occurred in Mobile Bay near Point Clear within Baldwin County.
The following agencies responded to and assisted with search and recovery operations: the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Air Station Mobile, Daphne Search and Rescue, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office’s Flotilla, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural (DCNR) Marine Resources Division, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Aviation Unit, ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division.
Nothing further is available as ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers continue to investigate.
