In response to the recent acts of violence in Montgomery and at the direction of Governor Kay Ivey, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is increasing its public safety efforts in the City of Montgomery and surrounding areas.
Effective immediately, ALEA will be expanding the patrol footprint of its Capitol Patrol Unit to include key downtown areas. Additionally, State Troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division will increase visibility and enforcement in and around Montgomery with the goal of deterring criminal activity and dangerous driving behaviors, while supporting public safety in a high-visibility capacity.
In addition to the efforts of the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit, these actions reflect our commitment to support our local law enforcement partners and ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors alike. Montgomery’s residents, like all Alabamians, deserve to live in a community free from violence. Achieving this goal requires strong collaboration among all branches of government — Executive, Legislative, and Judicial — at the local, state and federal levels to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens. ALEA remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the public and providing the necessary resources to deter crime, protect lives and property, and ensure Alabama remains a safe place to live, work and raise a family.
We will continue to coordinate closely with Montgomery’s city and county law enforcement leadership to align efforts, enhance response capabilities, and ensure a strong, united front against criminal activity.
ALEA’s mission has always been to preserve life and protect property across the state. We thank Governor Ivey for her steadfast leadership in ensuring safety in Montgomery and all across our state.
