On Sunday, Jan. 25, at the request of the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an in-custody death.
On Sunday, Jan. 25, an inmate at the Blount County Detention Center, later identified as Arthur P. Morse, 23, of Hayden began having a medical event. The Blount County Detention Center staff contacted medical personnel and Morse was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) St. Vincent's Blount Hospital. On Friday, Feb. 6, Morse was pronounced deceased while at UAB St. Vincent's Blount Hospital. An autopsy is currently being conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Blount County District Attorney’s Office.
