On Thursday, July 17 at approximately 2:19 a.m., Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that involved a deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred when officers responded to a call for service regarding a domestic situation in the 3000 Block of Wymond Drive in Opelika, within Lee County. Upon arrival, officers encountered a barricaded subject armed with a firearm, and a 30-year-old female and 2-year-old child inside the residence. Crisis Negotiators spoke with the barricaded subject, who was identified as Bryan Hall, 32, of Opelika, for several hours. Over the course of the incident, the 30-year-old female was able to safely exit the residence, but the child remained inside with Hall.
Ultimately, Hall was fatally wounded by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured over the course of the incident and the child was not harmed.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Lee County District Attorney’s Office.
