On Sunday, Nov. 23, at the request of the Lanett Police Department, Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting involving officers with the Lanett Police Department and Auburn Police Department.
The incident occurred when officers with the Lanet Police Department and an officer with the Auburn Police Department, who are assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force, attempted to take a wanted subject, Jaja Davis Jr., 27, of Lanett, into custody. Davis was wanted for discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. The charge stemmed from an earlier incident in which Davis fired into a Lanett Police Department patrol vehicle. When officers encountered Davis a second time in the 1000 Block of Magnolia Drive located in Lanett, Davis exchanged gunfire with the officers. Davis was fatally injured during the shooting and was later pronounced deceased after arriving at a local hospital. No officers were injured during the incident.
Nothing further is available at this time, as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Chambers County District Attorney's Office.
