On Saturday, Feb. 14, at approximately 4 p.m., Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an officer-involved shooting investigation involving officers with the Columbiana Police Department.
The incident occurred when officers with the Columbiana Police Department were attempting to conduct a welfare check at an apartment complex located on Alabama Highway 25, within Shelby County. During the course of the incident, an individual later identified as Ryan D. Holland, 37, of Columbiana, fired his weapon, causing the officers to return fire.
Holland was uninjured; however, one officer received minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Holland was arrested and officially charged with two counts of Attempted Murder. Holland was booked into the Shelby County Jail. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
